For years, people told me I ought to have a web site. “I’ll look into it,” I’d say, “as soon as I catch up on the laundry.” Finally, my daughter-in-law, Jesse, who is as smart as she is beautiful, decided to take matters in her own capable hands. She didn’t do my laundry, which is a constant work in progress. But she did design and build this web site, which, as you can see, is a work in progress itself. In return, I have promised her unlimited hours of babysitting, should the need ever arise. I also owe a huge debt of thanks to Greg Pool, whom I met long ago, when my late husband was his physics teacher at Monterey High. After college, Greg did his student teaching with his old teacher. And later, when Randy was battling cancer and could no longer teach, Greg took over his classes. Several months after Randy died, I had a note from Greg saying that he had “taken the liberty” of reserving my name for a web site for whenever I might be ready to do one. I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant, but I appreciated it nonetheless. Years passed, and I forgot. Then, when Jesse started working on the web site, we discovered that not only had Greg reserved my name, but he had renewed it every year for almost 10 years. He’d be delighted, he said, to help Jesse set it up. And when I offered to reimburse him for his expenses all those years, he said to consider it a gift _ a “small repayment” for all he learned from his old teacher. That’s how this web site came to be _ a work in progress, a gift of grace, much like my life. Stay tuned. Lord willing, there’s more to come. I’ll count on you to let me know what you think of it.
